Develops comprehensive plans, programs and activities that promote community-wide residential, industrial and commercial redevelopment while coordinating the Village's Planning and Zoning functions and activities. Performs professional and administrative work in researching, evaluating, proposing, and directing the development of the Village's asset base; acts as the fulcrum point for all municipal programs relating to construction, maintenance, and redevelopment of all private and public facilities within Village boundaries.
The Department is currently guided by the leadership of Buildings and Code Director, Walter Duncan.

The Community Development Department has many responsibilities throughout the Village. In general, the Department provides services to residents, contractors, businesses and developers to improve and develop their properties in Maywood. The Community Development Department is comprised of the Planning Division and Code Enforcement Division.
The Planning Division is responsible for providing guidance to residents, businesses and developers seeking development approvals from the Village. The Division maintains, updates and administers the Village’s planning documents such as the Comprehensive Plan, the Zoning Ordinance and the Zoning Map. The Division also coordinates Maywood’s Economic Development planning as well as the Village’s GIS. Staff provides support services to the Village Board, the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals, the Historic Preservation Commission and the Environmental Beautification Commission. The Plan Commission meets only on the 4th Tuesday of the month.
Code Enforcement Division
The Code Enforcement Division is responsible for ensuring Maywood properties are maintained to the standards as described within the Municipal Code. These standards and regulations are employed to maintain the appearance, safety and quality of life within the Village’s neighborhoods.
Economic Development Commission
Economic Development Commission (EDC) basic functions include approving the creation of an Economic Development Area (EDA) for Tax Increment Finance (TIF) and abatement purposes, approving inducement Resolutions for Industrial Revenue Bonds (IRB's), and approving Economic Development Bonds in a TIF.
