The Maywood Police Department is responsible for enforcing Ordinances passed by the Village Board.  Below are several key Ordinances that every resident of Maywood should know and understand.

Curfew Ordinance

On September 19, 2006, the Village of Maywood adopted Ordinance No. 32, which amended sections of Code 130.22 (Curfew) and created new section 130.27 (Truancy).  The curfew times for individuals under the age of 18 is now 10:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 11:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday.  Any juvenile caught violating this ordinance is subject to a fine of $100.00 for the first offense, with an increase in fines for subsequent offenses.  Parents and/or guardians are subject to be fined and/or charged if they fail to supervise their children.

Truancy Ordinance

If a children fails to attend school with "just cause," that child and his or her parents may be subject to charges and fines, which can also extend to any individuals who contribute to the truancy, including business owners.  The Village's new Truancy Ordinance gives local law enforcement officers the ability to charge and to fine not only juveniles, but also their parents or guardians in cases where children fail to attend school without "just cause."  This new ordinance also allows for individuals contributing to the delinquent behavior to be charged.  The finds for violation of this ordinance are similar to those of the curfew ordinance.  When a store owner allows children to congregate and purchase items in their establishment during school hours, they are contributing to the delinquency of a minor.  The Maywood Police Department is seeking cooperation from local businesses in enforcing the ordinance.  Business owners should contact the police department whenever they see children congregating during school hours.

Gang and Loitering Ordinance

In 2006, the Maywood Police Department completed training for all police personnel on the Village's Gang and Loitering Ordinance.  As part of the new MAPS (Maywood Alternative Policing Strategy) program, the Maywood Police Department will seek input from the residents in selecting designated areas to enforce the new ordinance.
