The Maywood Fire Department is tasked with responding to any and all fire, medical and emergency calls originating from within the Village of Maywood. In addition, the Department stands ready to provide assistance to other fire departments, as needed. The following are some of the important services the Department provides to the residents of Maywood.

Special Duty Calls |
|
The Maywood Fire Department is trained to respond to Special Duty Calls, which include auto accidents, carbon monoxide detection, alarm malfunctions, and hazardous materials. The Department also provides assistance to the Maywood Police Department and responds to any other emergency calls that arise in the Village and beyond.

Fire Prevention |
|
The Maywood Fire Department performs inspections of all non-residential buildings in town. Critical areas of concern include checking fire alarms, sprinkler systems, smoke detectors and evaluating the overall safety condition of the building. Inspections by the Department are done in conjunction with Code Enforcement. The Fire Inspector also works with contractors and builders on all new and remodeled construction.

Fire Safety Education |
|
The Maywood Fire Department offers fire safety education to all schools, churches, day care centers, and block clubs. While this service is available to any group or organization within the Village, the Department's education efforts are concentrated on grade schools, kindergarten through third grade. Through its efforts, the Department has provided fire safety education to over 1,200 school-age children and senior citizens living within the community.

Child Car Seat Inspections |
|
The Department has two firefighters certified to inspect car seats for proper installation. They are also qualified to adjust the seats, if necessary.

CPR/First
Aid |
|
The Maywood Fire Department has ten certified instructors in CPR and First Aid. These instructors offer classes to all Village residents on an as needed basis.

CERT (Citizen Emergency
Response Team |
|
The Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) is headed by retired Maywood Fire Captain John Wachal and two department members. Citizens are instructed in basic first aid, light fire suppression, search and rescue and other survival skills. The purpose of the training and the team is to equip residents to be able to assist other citizens in a time of disaster, when the fire department may not be able to get to them immediately.
