CERT (Citizen Emergency
Response Team |
|

The Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) was developed after Sept. 11, 2001 under the Citizen's Corp Council program. The CERT program was developed to train citizens in disaster preparedness, basic/disaster fire suppression, basic medical operations, light search and rescue, and team operations and organization. It is meant to help prepare citizens to help themselves as well as neighbors in the event of a disaster where the "professional" responders are face with an overwhelming incident or due to debris blocking access routes to an affected area.
The CERT training is available online as IS-317 on the Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) website under training through the Emergency Management Institute (EMI).
