About Gary Woll
Trustee Gary Woll has been a
resident and homeowner in Maywood for 43 years, along with
his wife of 45 years, Judy. They have three daughters who
were all educated in District 89 and at Proviso East High
School.
Trustee Woll earned a B.A. and
M.A. from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana.
He also received scholarships to pursue post-graduate
studies in politics and government at Southern Illinois
University, Claremont California Graduate School and the
American University in Washington D.C.
For many years, Trustee Woll
was a respected history/government instructor at Elmwood
Park High School. Following his early “retirement” in 1993,
Trustee Woll continued to assist Elmwood Park and Walther
Lutheran High School as a frequent substitute teacher. In
addition, Trustee Woll has spent a portion of his
“retirement” years serving as a supervisor and part-time
professor for student teachers at Northeastern Illinois
University.
For nearly four decades,
Trustee Woll has honed his leadership skills by serving for
in numerous leadership positions. At various times he has
served as President, Editor and Secretary of NoMCO, a north
Maywood community organization he helped found in 1968.
Additionally, since he joined Maywood Rotary in 1991, he has
twice served as its President and has been a major force in
fundraising and increasing the membership of the chapter.
Moreover, during a portion of his tenure as a Village
Trustee from 1977-2001, he served as mayor pro-tem and
chaired several different Village committees.
Trustee Woll believes in
proactive leadership. He is often the first person to meet
new residents through his “Welcome Wagon” initiative.
Citizens of Maywood often encounter him out-and-about in the
community, engaged in a various activities ranging from
voter registration to CB patrol to checking on streetlight
outages. Trustee Woll does his utmost to respond in a
timely manner to citizens’ concerns.
Since he was first elected in
1977, Trustee Woll has regularly attended board meetings.
During the nearly 40 years he has served on the Board of
Trustees, Trustee Woll has attended Village Board meetings
95% of the time.
Trustee Woll’s many years
serves of service have not gone unnoticed. In 1988, an
organization called PARC, now known as ASPIRE, gave him an
award acknowledging his support for the rights of the
developmentally challenged. In 1998, Trustee Woll received
the “Best Friend of High School Sports” from Illinois’
statewide high school athletic directors. The award was
given in recognition of Trustee Woll’s 30+ years of active
support for high school sports in Elmwood Park. Most
recently, Trustee Woll was chosen by Operation Uplift to
receive the “Helping Hand Good Neighbor” Award. On the
plaque are the words, “Keep Up The Great Work,” which
Trustee Woll intends to do.
Trustee Woll remains involved
in numerous local organizations, including the Maywood
Rotary, NoMCO, and the Chamber of Commerce/Gold Card
Committee. |
