MAYWOOD
VILLAGE BOARD
APPROVES
AGREEMENT TO
TURN OVER PARKS
TO PARK
DISTRICT
Maintenance
and Operation of
Five Village
Parks
Will Be
Responsibility
of Park District
Almost eighteen
months after Maywood
voters approved a
referendum extending
the park district’s
reach to the village
boundaries, the
Maywood Board of
Trustees unanimously
approved an
agreement for
transferring title
for five Maywood
parks to the Maywood
Park District.
This action, taken
at Tuesday’s board
meeting, is
contingent upon
acceptance of the
agreement by the
Maywood Park
District.
Parks affected are:
Connor-Heise
Memorial Park, 10th
Avenue and
Washington;
Lexington Park, 5th
Avenue and
Lexington; Bataan
Park, 22nd Avenue
and Lexington;
Winfield-Scott Park,
19th Avenue and
Maywood Drive; and
Tot Lot Park, 4th
Avenue and Huron.
According to the
agreement, title
ownership for the
aforementioned parks
would be conveyed to
the Maywood Park
District along with
the responsibility
for insuring,
maintaining,
providing security
for and operating
those facilities.
“The Village of
Maywood, in
accordance with the
wishes of its
residents, has taken
another definitive
step to enhance
recreation
activities provided
by the Maywood Park
District,” declared
Mayor Henderson
Yarbrough. “With
this official action
now being taken,
both governmental
units are better
able to provide the
services expected by
Maywood residents.
We will continue to
work with the park
district to provide
the highest quality
of life for the
village of Maywood,”
he concluded.
