PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 13, 2010

MAYWOOD POLICE TO CONDUCT

DAILY SAFETY BELT CHECKS IN MAY

“Click it or Ticket” will be the operative theme in the village of Maywood this month as the Maywood Police Department vigilantly conducts daily safety belt checks in at least fourteen enforcement zones.

Starting May 14 and continuing through May 31, uniformed patrol officers, operating marked squads, will be posted at designated intersections.  Vehicle drivers and occupants not wearing their seat belts will be ticketed.

“Motor vehicle crashes due to non-use of safety belts and child safety seats are the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 5 through 24,” Police Chief Timothy Curry asserted.  “The most effective way to ensure that these laws are obeyed is visible enforcement programs.  The Maywood Police Department is committed to saving lives and enforcing the law and asks the full cooperation of residents and drivers who enter our village,” the chief stated.

Enforcement zones in Maywood will include the following:

15th Avenue and St. Charles Road
5th Avenue and Lexington Street
19th Avenue and South Maywood Drive
4th Avenue and Washington Boulevard
12th Avenue and Madison Street
4th Avenue and Main Street
1st Avenue and Madison Street
23rd Avenue and Lexington Street
13th Avenue and Washington Boulevard
19th Avenue and Oak Street
5th Avenue and Quincy Street
9th Avenue and Chicago Avenue
17th Avenue and Washington Boulevard
9th Avenue and Quincy Street
