that Starts
Hooping on May
11
Building on the
successes of adult
night-time
basketball programs
of the last two
years, the Village
of Maywood announced
that that it will
once again host a
men’s adult
basketball
league. Ten teams
consisting of ten
players each will
compete in a
two-month schedule
set to tip off on
May 11. All games
will be played in
the gymnasium of the
Maywood
Multi-Purpose
Building, 200 S. 5th
Avenue.
Registration is
presently underway
with the cutoff
being May 10. The
village is seeking
sponsors to
underwrite costs
including uniforms
and referee
compensation.
Individuals or
businesses
interested in
supporting this
program should
contact Quinton
Beasley by email
at maywoodhoops@yahoo.com,
or by phone at
708: 289-1833.
“This program is one
of our tools to
redirect energies
and interests into
positive outlets,”
Mayor Henderson
Yarbrough Sr.
commented. “One
hundred young men in
our gym competing in
athletics on
organized teams is
much better than 100
men standing on
Maywood streets with
nothing but time on
their hands,” the
mayor asserted.
