$8 MILLION
MAYWOOD
FIFTH AVENUE
IMPROVEMENT
PROJECT MOSTLY
COMPLETED
The massive
face-lift of
Fifth Avenue, an
$8,106,695
improvement
project which
began last
spring, has been
mostly
completed. The
construction
project, which
will
dramatically
improve
Maywood’s major
business hub,
will be done
completely by
next June.
Fifth Avenue
improvements,
paid for by a
combination of
Illinois
Department of
Transportation
grant dollars
and monies from
the St. Charles
and Madison TIFs,
will rejuvenate
5th Avenue from
Quincy Street to
Lake Street.
Five major areas
of improvement
include:
-
All new
utility work
including
installing
storm sewers
and drainage
structures,
a new 12
inch water
main and
water
services
within the
right-of-way,
new Nicor
gas mains,
and new AT&T
lines
-
Replacement
of curbs and
gutters on
Fifth Avenue
except for
intersections
north of
Randolph on
the east
side of the
road
-
First lift
of asphalt
placed with
all lanes
open for
traffic
-
Partial
completion
of
streetlight
work with
the balance
to be done
by early
January
-
Traffic
signal
improvements
to be
completed
this winter
at Main, St.
Charles
Road,
Washington
Boulevard
and Madison
Street
“We appreciate
the patience of
our residents
and business
owners during
the extensive
Fifth Avenue
improvement
work,” Mayor
Henderson
Yarbrough
explained. “We
can all see now
that our major
commercial
avenue has been
dramatically
improved and
will be the
precursor of new
commercial
development on
Fifth Avenue.”
Work will resume
on Fifth Avenue
in late March,
2010.
