The Village of
Maywood
officially
welcomes the
Christmas season
with a
seven-panel lit
gigantic window
display
patterned after
the
Chronicles of
Narnia
children books.
The unveiling
took place on
Saturday,
December 12 at 5
PM at Village
Hall, 40 Madison
Street in
Maywood.
Proviso East
High School art
students, using
recycled
cardboard,
created seven
“windows” from
the Robert
Sabuda pop up
book. Under the
direction of art
teacher Emily
Tonon, the
students have
been working on
their displays
since October
1.
The seven
windows are
titled thusly:
“The Magician’s
Nephew”; “The
Horse and His
Bay”; “The Lion,
the Witch and
the Wardrobe”;
“Prince
Caspian”; “The
Voyage of The
Dawn Treader”;
“The Silver
Chair”; and “The
Last Battle.”
“Maywood
welcomes
everyone to view
this unique
display,” Mayor
Henderson
Yarbrough
proclaimed. “We
believe that
this wonderful
tribute to this
festive time of
year will be
Maywood’s way of
wishing
everybody a
happy holiday
season where
families can
join together in
peace and
goodwill for
all.”
“Thanks for our
Special Events
Commission
chairwoman Dawn
Williams for all
of her work and
advocacy for
this window
display,” the
mayor pointed
out. “I also
want to thank
Proviso East
High School,
local
businessman
Jerry Kurzak and
countless others
for all of their
work in this
spectacular
display,” Mayor
Yarbrough
concluded.
Kurzak, owner of
Blue Wave Hand
Car Wash,
donated the
cardboard and
was responsible
for constructing
the seven-panel
set for the
window display.
