The village of
Maywood, in the
midst of major
road
improvements
throughout the
community, has
announced two
major 9th Avenue
improvement
projects
scheduled to be
completed during
this
construction
season.
The first
project,
covering 9th
Avenue between
Madison and
Harrison, is
targeted for a
late September
completion. The
$415,000
repaving will be
covered under an
IDOT grant(80%)
and the 20%
village match
being paid for
by the Madison
TIF.
The second
section of 9th
Avenue to be
improved will
cover from
Bataan Drive to
Roosevelt Road.
It will be
funded via
federal economic
stimulus
dollars—American
Recovery and
Reinvestment Act
of 2009
transportation
funding.
Village funds
will cover 20%
of the
construction
cost, which is
estimated at
$500,000. Bids
are expected in
September and,
weather
permitting, the
work will be
completed by
late fall.
Additionally the
village
announced six
sections of
street to be
resurfaced this
year. Street
improvements
will be made on
the following:
-
6th Avenue
from Main
Street to
Lake Street;
-
Oak Street
from 13th
Avenue to
5th Avenue;
-
14th Avenue
from
Randolph
Street to
Oak Street;

Warren
Avenue;
-
11th Avenue
from Adams
Street to
North
Maywood
Drive; and
-
10th Avenue
from
Harrison
Street to
Adams
Street.
Improvements
include
replacing
sections of curb
and gutter,
sidewalk and
driveway
entrances, as
well as repair
and replacement
of drainage
structures and
their connection
to the village
relief sewer.
Additionally,
those roadways
will have
pavement base
course repairs,
milling of the
existing center
lanes of
pavement,
placement of
bituminous
binder and
surface courses
of hot mix
asphalt, and
restoration of
landscaped
parkways.
Bids for this
work have
already opened
and presently
are being
evaluated. An
award
recommendation
is expected at
an upcoming
village board
meeting.
