MAYWOOD FIRE
DEPARTMENT UNVEILS
NEW RESCUE SQUAD
VEHICLE THURSDAY
The
Maywood Fire
Department will
unveil its new
$250,000 rescue
squad vehicle
Thursday at a 10
a.m. press
conference to be
held at the fire
station located at 7th
and St. Charles
Avenue in Maywood.
Along with showing
the state-of-the-art
features of this new
fire department
super-sized truck,
there will be a
demonstration of how
to extricate trapped
passengers in a car
accident.
The rescue squad
vehicle, which
carries double the
compartment space as
the old vehicle, is
used for all rescue
operations including
car accidents, high
angle rescues and
trench responses.
“The Department of
Homeland Security
and FEMA have
mandated that fire
department rescue
vehicles carry more
equipment for
various emergency
uses,” explained
Maywood Fire Chief
John Cadagin. “Our
new vehicle will
allow us to carry
additional hand
tools, air bags,
life safety ropes
and other equipment
needed to be the
first responder to
emergencies in
Maywood.
Cadagin pointed out
that the new vehicle
should serve the
village for at least
25 years; the old
vehicle, which has
been in service for
12 years, will be
used by the public
works department.
“Our new rescue
vehicle responds to
all car accidents in
the village and,
with its increased
capacity, will
provide our fire
fighters with what
they need to respond
to emergency
situations,” Cadagin
concluded.
