MAYWOOD HOSTS
PROPERTY TAX
APPEAL FORUM
Wednesday, May
6, 2009
BOARD OF REVIEW
COMMISSIONER
ROGERS
INVITES MAYWOOD
RESIDENTS TO
APPEAL
PROPERTY TAX
ASSESSMENTS
Cook County Board of
Review Commissioner
Larry Rogers will
hold a property tax
appeal forum on
Wednesday, May 6 at
the Maywood
Multi-Purpose
Building, 200 S. 5th
Avenue in Maywood.
The forum will start
at 7 PM.
Commissioner Rogers
and his staff will
work with Maywood
residents with forms
appealing their
property tax
assessment.
Forms
can be filled out at
the forum; deadline
for submitting forms
for Proviso Township
residents is May
20. At a similar
forum last year,
more than 400
residents filled out
forms. According to
Commissioner Rogers’
office, more than
70% were successful
in their appeal.
Hosted
by the Village of
Maywood, Mayor
Henderson Yarbrough
once again was
appreciative of
Commissioner Rogers’
outreach in behalf
of village
residents. “At a
time when our
residents face
tremendous financial
challenges, it is
encouraging that
homeowners have an
opportunity to
reduce their tax
burden. In behalf
of all our
residents, I thank
Commissioner Rogers
and his staff for
helping our
residents with this
appeal process,” the
mayor concluded.
Commissioner Rogers
called the present
economic climate
“one of the worst
periods in our
nation’s history.
We are suffering
from declining
property values
while facing
increasing property
taxes.” He
characterized his
office’s efforts as
“an historic
outreach directed at
taxpayers whose
assessments fail to
mirror the
well-documented
economic downturn in
the real estate
market.”
