Motor vehicle
crashes are the
leading cause of
death for
Americans
between the ages
of 5 through
24. Most of
the fatal deaths
of the vehicle
occupants were
because of those
individuals
non-use of
safety belts and
child safety
seats. The
Maywood Police
Department in
conjunction with
the Illinois
Department of
Transportation
will be
conducting daily
safety belt
enforcement
zones throughout
the Village of
Maywood during
the period of
May 19, 2008
through June 2,

At above listed
different
locations,
uniformed patrol
officers,
operating marked
squads vehicles,
will be posted
at the
intersections.
Vehicle drivers
and occupants
who are observed
by Patrol
Officer(s) not
wearing their
seat belts will
be ticketed. It
has been noted
that visible
enforcement
programs
focusing on
these violations
offer the
greatest
potential for
changing these
behaviors. Many
lives can be
saved by
changing public
attitudes
regarding the
non-use of
safety belts and
child safety
seats.
